Mission:
84 Years Young
Timeline: After Part 1
Previously, on Star Trek The Sullivans
Unlike the others, Hikari who had been taken by surprise to have been 'conscripted' by the Captain, wasn't present. She was still on The Sullivans working on its systems. She was currently sat crossed legged in a Jeffries tube somewhere between decks fourteen and fifteen wrestling a very stubborn conduit cover. Next to her on the floor however was a PADD which was displaying a live feed from the shuttlebay on the Starbase.
On the Hikari's PADD, the live feed showed the senior staff's shuttle lifting off and departing from the shuttlebay. Though Hikari was too wrapped up in dealing with the conduit cover to notice, it would only be a matter of time before the shuttle made its way out to the ship.
And now, the continuation!
The shuttle carrying the senior staff of the USS The Sullivans made its way down the row of decommissioned ships where the Excelsior class starship had peacefully sat for the past 64 years. Since the escalation of hostilities with the Dominion, the row had become something of a busy highway, with auxiliary craft and work bees zipping back and forth. When it was time for a ship to be moved into the yard, the "traffic" was rerouted if it couldn't be stopped completely.
It was a stressing environment to fly in if a pilot didn't know what they were doing.
From the pilot's seat of the shuttle, a somewhat manic giggle came intermittently from the short woman who seemed to need a booster seat to get a proper view, but instead leaned forward as if getting six inches closer to the window would give her even better reaction time. This was apparently important because instead of going along with the flow of traffic, Shirley was weaving in and around it expertly. "Traffic control, shuttle flight 6-1-3-2 inbound to The Sullivans requesting clearance to enter secure space on profile approach."
"Flight 6132, you are directed to reduce your speed immediately, for the third time. Negative on a profile approach, direct approach only to The Sullivans shuttle bay."
"Hmph." The junior grade Lieutenant miffed, slowing down by a bare micron to 'obey' the rules, "Copy that Traffic Control, profile flight once around, then direct approach to shuttlebay, 6132 out." She quickly swiped the comm system frequency bar with a squelch that changed her frequency to something random, even as she bounced up and over a cargo shuttle, then veered off towards the Excelsior-class ship, starting to slow now that she saw the ship, "If you'll look out the port side windows, everyone, for those who have yet to make this flight, I give you The Sullivans." She began an approach vector that would give everyone the best view.
Even though Violet had already seen The Sullivans a couple times before, from her seat closer to the back of the shuttle, she still turned to get a peek out of the shuttle's viewport as they flew over the ship.
"Flight 6132, this is The Sullivans traffic control:" Another voice came over the shuttle's radio. "The Sullivans welcomes you."
Jo'ohn looked out the viewport, and caught sight if his new home. "From this vantage point, she looks ready enough to go into battle now," he said aloud to no one in particular.
"The Sullivans traffic control, this is Flight 6132, requesting permission to land." Shirley went through the formalities, "Clear the shuttle bay, I'll make this something to remember."
"Flight 6132, this is The Sullivans traffic control: Cleared direct to main shuttlebay."
Another slightly manic giggle before the shuttle looped into a barrel roll and the engines goosed to further life and acceleration as the shuttle streaked towards the shuttlebay on a fast approach even as the shipyard flight control found her frequency and started gabbling at her again.
A young blonde engineer sat on the edge of a large cargo crate watching the shuttlecraft land. She simply grinned at the members that she could see through the forward viewport. She knew these were the senior staff arriving, and Hikari couldn't wait to meet them.
As the shuttle drifted the final dozen meters to touchdown, Shirley made the 180 degree turn to present the rear hatch of the shuttle towards the entry door to the interior of the ship and made the landing feel as if they were being placed down on a pillow by an exceedingly gentle giant, "Welcome aboard The Sullivans. The pilot has now turned off the seatbelt light, you are free to move about the cabin, exit is in the rear and please fly The Sullivans Shuttle Lines again soon!"
As the ramp dropped down, Violet exited the shuttle, for the first time taking in the view of the stars from the shuttlebay. That was one thing that they had managed to get fixed, and it was time to see how much of the other things wrong had been too:
"Alright, y'all have your assignments." Violet said as the senior staff exited the shuttle. "We'll reconvene in three hours' time to go over the status of your departments.
Jo'ohn stepped out of the shuttle and knelt down, placing bis right hand flat on the deck plating as he closed his eyes and said a silent prayer. When he was done, he stood and dipped his head to Violet. "Understood, Captain." He then gathered his things and made his way out of the shuttlebay, heading to the tactical department.
Celeste was one of the last out and glanced out the forcefield where the Captain was looking for a moment, the vastness of space being one of her solace points with the sparkling lights of the stars, "I'll get updates on the sections that don't have department heads yet and be ready to report on their statuses as well."
Violet merely nodded in acknowledgement before making her way towards the exit. Her destination being the bridge.
