Mission: 84 Years Young
Location: USS The Sullivans

It seemed like it had taken a small eternity, but at last, through much trials and tribulations, The Sullivans and her rag tag crew had managed to completely clear off the pre-tow checklist. With Violet having sent the completed checklist back to the yard, some yard tugs had been dispatched to bring the Sullivans into the yard under tow, and were expected to arrive within the hour.

Violet was on the bridge, overseeing the final preparations for the tow. She was relieved that the end of this process was almost in sight, and it was a relief that was felt all across the ship. At long last, they would finally be able to complete the reactivation process and get this old ship back into action.

Despite being on the bridge, Violet still hadn't sat in the captain's chair yet- partially because she was nervous about setting her meager posterior into the crater left by her great grand mamaw. And as a result, Violet was still on her feet, keeping an eye on the viewscreen for those yard tugs:

"Attention all hands; this is the captain:" Violet tapped her combadge. "The moment we've all been waiting for has finally arrived: Please complete your final preparations for the tow. That will be all."

At the Science conn, Keeli prepped the systems, probes, and atmospheric devices to intake any anomalies that may be caused by the tow. That didn't normally happen, but she'd been in Starfleet long enough to know to prepare for the unexpected, anyway. She wasn't here to take any risks. "Science is prepped, ma'am," she said.

Sitting at his station, located on the port side of the bridge, Jo'ohn turned to address his captain. "All tactical and defensive systems, as they currently are, are ready for the transfer, Ma'am."

Sitting at the Operations console, Bajoran Lieutenant Sharvo Irril typed on the interface. Looking back at the captain, "Communications and Operations ready, Captain."

"Excellent, Mister Sharvo." Violet said. "Any word from the tugs?"

The Operations Manager snickered, "Excellent timing, Captain, they're hailing us now."

"Put them through:" Violet ordered.

The Bajoran Lieutenant nodded and, silently, transferred the communications over as requested.

"USS The Sullivans, this is the tug Winnebago." The tug pilot's voice came through. "We are ready to initiate the tow. The tugs Cherokee and Navajo will be handling your tow today, and we'll be your spotter tug."

"Understood, Winnebago." Violet responded. "Are the other tugs in position?"

"They are, and ready to receive."

"Copy that." Violet said, muting the comm channel but not closing it completely. "All hands, prepare to receive tow lines!"

"Engineering to bridge," came Hikari's voice. "We're all ready down here. The Sullivans is good to ship out."

Keeli nodded, and turned to the Conn, ensuring that the probes were in, but ready to launch once they did. "Atmosphere ahead is clear, Ma'am," she said, her voice firm and calm.

"The Sullivans to Cherokee and Navajo:" Violet said over the tug frequency. "Commence tow when ready:"

"Navajo acknowledges; commencing tow."

"Cherokee acknowledges; commencing tow."

With confirmation from the tugs, The Sullivans lurched slightly as the two yard tugs put their tractor beams on the old Excelsior class ship. Then, slowly but surely, the two smaller craft, with the third acting as a spotting vessel, began to maneuver the larger, yet still largely inoperative vessel out of the spot where it had spent the last half century.

With the tow finally underway, Violet could breathe a sigh of relief: All of the sheer nonsense that had been thrown at her since she was forced to give up command of the Little Rock was now behind her: With the Sullivans now officially underway to the yard, the reactivation and modernization process could begin in earnest. As the dead ship tow slowly glided amongst the other inactive hulks of the reserve fleet, Violet, unsure of how to deal with the emotional maelstrom she was caught up in, involuntarily began reciting the lyrics to one of her favorite tunes. Something she felt embodied the spirit of The Sullivans and sticking together:

"One more depending on a prayer,
And we just look away
People pretending everywhere
It's just another day
There's bullets flying through the air
And they still carry on
We watch it happen over there
And then just turn it off...
"

Irril looked over his shoulder at the Captain, "Is that a poem, Captain?"

"It's an old Earth song from the early 21st century." Violet responded. "It promotes themes of sticking together, and that's what our ship's namesakes were all about: Not being separated during wartime."

Violet decided to omit that the brothers' refusal to separate cost them their lives. It wasn't something worth bringing up in this moment.

"Maybe it should be our ship's dedication motto," the young Bajoran recommended.

Jo'ohn looked over at his captain. "For my people, nothing is more important than family. As we all serve together here, we have become a new family. I would do anything to keep my family safe, even if it meant my life."

Violet nodded.

"The Sullivan brothers believed in family as well." She said. "They all gave their lives because they refused to separate." Violet turned to Sharvo. "As for the recommissioning motto... I could certainly look into that."

Space, the final frontier.
These are the voyages of the Starship The Sullivans
It's continuing mission:
To protect strange, new worlds.
To aid new life, and new civilizations
To provide freedom and hope for all.
