Mission: 84 Years Young
Location: Briefing Room - Deck 1
Timeline: After Part 2

Previously, on Star Trek: The Sullivans:

Jo'ohn looked over at the energetic Chief Engineer, then asked a question. "As my dietary needs require raw meat, may I please request that the replicator in my quarters is setup accordingly?"

"Oh I forgot... There are no replicators currently in crew quarters..." Hikari said "But the old fashioned kitchen in the VIP lounge is somewhat functional. We're lucky to have any at all really, back in this ships prime they had food synthesisers. Think of it as a 'poor man's food replicator'. They only made basic ingredients, then you prepared and cooked it yourself." Hikari explained.

And now, the conclusion:

Jo'ohn nodded as he took note of Hikari's reply. He would ensure that when it is time for him to feed, which is once a day, he would do so in private, to the best of his ability. Outlanders were often put off by how his people consumed their food. He would speak to the Captain, after the briefing, regarding the situation.

"That issue is on the list to be addressed in the modernization process." Violet added. "However, before we can start adding systems that a 24th century Starfleet crew would expect, we need to make sure that what we have is stable enough to be towed into the shipyard."

"I noticed that the Labs are...old fashioned. I can work with that, but what are we looking at for upgrades?" She asked. "Timeline-wise, I mean!" She clarified. "In the meantime, we're fine with Bunsen burners and beakers!" She really WAS fine with it; chemistry hadn't changed much in the five hundred years since Earth had published it, and not much in the four hundred years that Trill had taught it to their citizens, either.

"We haven't even touched the science labs," Hikari replied. "Like our Captain said, we were told to get the ships basic systems online to get to a proper shipyard." She smiled. "Heck, we only got the lights up here working this morning." She indicated to the ceiling. "Most of this ship is crosswired, diverted and crossfed between this and that! It's clear she was a frontline vessel and the engineers back then did what they could with what they had at the time! You should see the dilithium articulation frame... Its not standard at all, someone redesigned and rebuilt it specially for this ships warp core." She paused briefly. "Basically, old ships like this aren't like what we have today, these old girls have their own kinks, gremlins and personalities."

"I'd imagine some of it was done during the decommissioning process as well." Violet added. "Maybe to prevent a short? Or make it harder for pirates to steal her... I ain't too well-versed in the security of mothball fleets."

"Sort of... maybe... well... not really..." Hikari replied. "You see, over the years these old ships were used as doners of spare parts to other ships that needed them. You should see some of the lower decks, they're more or less picked clean. But it makes sense, why manufacture new parts when you've got old parts sitting in your back yard." She told them all. "Of course, over time those older systems were upgraded or replaced entirely, so even these old ships weren't needed. So they just left them here for a rainy day. Apparently it's been quite rainy these past few months."

Keeli simply nodded. "I understand; we all know that Starfleet takes their time until it suits them," she said. And science was often funded last-as the goals of Starfleet moved towards more militarilistic, their original purpose of scientific advancement got moved to the back burner. She was used to it by now, and would work anywhere, so long as she had basic supplies.

Jo'ohn nodded darkly. "The Dominion and Cardassian u
Union have had many victories against our forces. Added to that, the recent falling out with the Klingons...we are starting to fight a war on several different fronts. Starfleet needs as many reliable starships on the frontlines as possible."

"It's a sentiment that Starfleet recognizes and shares." Violet added, though her new Engineer saying that this ship had been cannibalized over the decades did partially confirm what she had grown up suspecting. "And that is why we are here today: With a 215 item checklist that must be completed before the yard will even consider taking us under tow. Between..."

Violet took a moment to count the senior staff currently seated at the table.

"Five departments;" She said. "Five departments including Commander Tiae and myself. So, split between five departments, we should have no problem knocking this list out: But before we can begin to tackle it, we need to first go over what's already been done, and see how much of it left each department has to go through:" Violet turned to Hikari. "Y'all said you haven't touched the Science labs, for instance, so I suspect Science's portion of the list is largely untouched."

Hikari shrugged. "Honestly, I have no idea. According to the ships logs the decks where the science labs are haven't had life support since the ship was decommissioned. It seems the real only parts that were cannibalised were engineering systems, power relays, computer components; that sort of thing. Most likely the science equipment on board were already considered outdated or not in high demand so they most likely didn't bother with them." Hikari paused. "Life support on those decks should be restored within the next few hours. The entire system is a mess and we've been focusing on more essential areas that we're going to need first."

"Well, then, that begs the next question:" Violet replied. "How many of the various departments are currently accessible? You need to understand: You're telling me you need access to the yard facilities and equipment, but the yard has made it clear that they ain't willing to even entertain the notion of towing us until this list is knocked out."

"Approximately eighty percent of the ship should be accessible in the next few hours." Hikari replied. "Some areas will still be off limits as this ship was used as a donor for spare parts. Most of deck elevens deck plates aren't actually there. So we'll be sealing off the more hazardous areas."

"Well, that's gonna have to do:" Violet remarked, looking around to the faces of her senior staff: "Y'all have your assignments: Let's go ahead and get into areas as engineering opens them so we can get this list knocked out as quickly as possible so we can get towed into the yard to be modernized."

Violet then turned to Hikari:

"If any of these items turn out to be in the more hazardous areas y'all are going to be sealing off, we'll go through them on a case by case basis." She continued. "And if any of y'all need help, don't hesitate to come to Commander Tiae or myself for it. I want y'all to know that my door is always open, as is that of Commander Tiae. Now, that being said, this list ain't gettin' checked off the longer we sit here and talk, so let's get to work. Dismissed."
